K-12 Registration Information
First day of Kindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year is Monday, August 11, 2014.

2014 REGISTRATION INFORMATION

RegistrationRegistration for students who will be enrolling in Kindergarten for the 2014-2015 school year will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. the week of May 5 – May 9, 2014, at each elementary school. If you live in Dickson County and are unsure of the school your child is zoned to attend, you may call the Transportation Department for information at 740-5970.

An early kindergarten entrance assessment will be administered, upon request by parents, to children whose birthday falls between September 1 and September 30. The assessment will be administered sometime May 2014 under the direction of the Board of Education Central Office. Forms to request participation in assessment may be obtained at any elementary school or at the Board of Education Central Office. Solicitud de Admisión Temprana para Kinder para el año 2014-15

Kindergarten out of zone requests will be accepted beginning the second Monday in May. Requests should be made to the principal’s office of the requested out of zone school.
Please note that requests do not automatically mean that students will be assigned to the out-of-zone school. Decisions will be made during the last two weeks of school.

A child entering kindergarten shall be no less than five years of age on or before August 15
However, a child does not have to enroll in school at five years of age, but enrollment must occur no later than the beginning of the academic year following the child’s sixth birthday.(Rules of the State Board of Education, Chapter 0520-1-3 Minimum Requirements for Approval of Public Schools)

A child who participated in a local public school PreK program or Head Start program during the 2013-14 school year, may enter kindergarten in the 2014-15 school year. (House Bill No. 2566)

Parents must provide the following to enroll in school.
1. BIRTH CERTIFICATE
2. SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
3. EVIDENCE OF IMMUNIZATION
4. COMPLETE PHYSICAL EXAMINATION (BY SCHOOL ENTRANCE DATE)
5. 3 PROOFS OF RESIDENCY (proof of home ownership, rental agreement, driver's license, voter registration card, current utility bill, telephone bill, cable bill, etc)

Kindergarten can be very exciting for young students but it can also be a time of nervousness, anxiety and struggles. As a child begins their new journey in the education system, Dickson County Schools desires that all children have the best possible to start to their education. Kindergarten readiness is a great beginning to academic success.

The Kindergarten teachers of Dickson County are sensitive to the adjustments children will go through to adapt to the school environment. They take extra care to make their experience enjoyable and full of learning. In cooperation with strong parental support, kindergarten students can enjoy a smoother, less stressful transition into the school system.

Pre-registration for kindergarten in Dickson County is usually held each April at the zoned school. Parents need to call their zoned school for specific dates. If you are unsure of which school your child will be attending, you may call the Transportation Department at (615) 740-5970 for accurate zoning information. Kindergarten out-of-zone requests will be accepted beginning the second Monday in May. Requests should be made to the principal’s office of the requested out of zone school.
